Birte Nielsen studied Psychology at Copenhagen University before moving to the UK. She went on to study Interior Design and Ceramics at Central School of Art and Design.

Birte started Simply Scandinavian in 1997 to offer interior design consultancy and represent Danish companies to the contract market.

Birte's first collection of rugs was launched at 100% Design 2005.
