Newsletter - November 2003
For those of you who visited the show, you will
know that it was a tremendous success. The show
is the UK's only contemporary international
design show, showcasing only the best products
in the
marketplace.
For Simply Scandinavian, there were several new
lighting and fabric products, which you will
also find featured on our website. This
Newsletter is dedicated to those product
launches, as well as featuring new work by
Annemette, who also exhibited at 100%.
Verner Panton designed the pendant FlowerPot in
the 60's. The design quickly gained icon status
at the
time and is proving equally popular since it was
re-launched by Unique Interieur a few years ago.
Four new vibrant colours have now been added to the
range: yellow, orange, turqouise and brown. Verner Panton exploited the technique of playing
with light and colours in all of his designs and
FlowerPot lends itself emminently to this. Hang
in a line, a cluster or as a more formal
chandelier. We can supply all of the components
needed for complete chandeliers in different sizes. The Design Museum in London presently has an
exhibition called History Of Modern Design In
The Home, running from November 2003 to
September 2004. The exhibition tells the story
behind innovative and inspiring landmarks in
modern design and reconstructs a series of
iconic modern interiors. One of the interiors is
a Pop Art-inspired dining room by Verner Panton. Bulb, normally supplied with porcelain
lampholder, can now also be supplied with zinc
lampholder. Experiment with different ES lamps,
such as handmade carbon filament lamps, clear or
silvered lamps, or dichroic lamps for task
lighting. Hang as a chandelier, in round or
square format, or as a long spiral if the space
allows.
Contact Design has already established a
reputation for high quality indoor and outdoor
lighting in the specifying market. The range has
now been extended with Kubus.
Kubus is a simple, compact luminaire in
stainless steel and polycarbonate, emitting
light through two sides, with IP44 rating. It is
available to the contract market in two sizes
(125mm and 180mm cube). Due to the IP rating, it
can be used for bathrooms - a sector which has
long been neglected - as well as any external
areas. Can also be used to complement Torch
where smaller luminaires are called for.
kNOT is a new range of indoor pendants and
tablelamps, where the shade is made from a
continuous band of polycabonate, which forms an
interlocking sphere. With competitive pricing,
ease of cleaning, robust construction and
striking looks, it is destined to become a
winner, both for domestic and contract markets.
kNOT series is based is based on The Golden
Ratio in its proportions. In the shade, formed
from 5 windings, The Golden Ration is embedded 56
times. The smaller shade is 27cm, the larger one
45cm in diameter. Larger shades can also be
specified for contract use.
Holmegaard has been making glass tableware to
the highest standard since 1825, as the glass
division of Royal Scandinavia. When we saw their
new luminaires at The Danish Furniture Fair
earlier in the year, we felt that they would be
suitable for the contract sector in the
UK. For the full range, see the Danish website
www.scandinavianlight.dk, which will shortly be
translated into English. Sif was exhibited in Copenhagen in a very
unusual and highly effective style: Hang the
lamps in
a continuous s-shape over a row of tables, with
opposite curves over the next row of tables.
Scancoll ApS of Denmark launched their range of
mock suede in the UK at the show, as well as a
new range of leather products.
Mionetta mock suede is competitively priced and
meets UK domestic standards with regards to fire
retardancy. It is also washable and extremely
hardwearing. At the show, 6 new colours were
launched. Mionetta can also be laser cut and
laser engraved. Please ask for details.
Scancoll also offers a range of leather cushions,
for wood and plastic chairs, with rubber backing
to ensure good grip. The cushions can be made to
customer's own template, based on minimum
quantity of 6. Existing patterns include chairs
in the 7-series, by Arne Jacobsen, as well as many
other modern popular chairs.
Annemette Beck is well known for her
experimental work in room dividers, featuring
paper yarn and organic fibres. At 100%, she
launched new weaves in thin silver thread,
fluorescent lit cord as well as a new vertical
blinds.
Much of Annemette's work involves tailoring
designs to specific projects. Her product range
for contract use includes blankets, rugs, room
dividers, table cloths, napkins, blinds and
curtains, as well as an extensive range of
upholstery fabrics in wool, papertwine and felt.
Annemette can also supply felt for flooring,
suitable for different levels of traffic, plain
or stencilled, woven in strips etc.
