Hans Wegner's 90th Birthday
|
Hans J Wegner was born in Denmark on the 2nd of
April 1914, in the town of Tønder, and he
has just celebrated his 90th birthday. Along
with famous designers like Arne Jacobsen, Verner
Panton, Børge Morgensen, Poul Kjærholm
and Kaare Klint, he made Danish design famous
worldwide. However, Hans Wegner is one of the
few surviving designers of that generation.
The classic Danish furniture industry dominated
the world market from 1950 to 1970, and is now
enjoying an impressive renaissance. Manufactured
in Denmark, Hans Wegner's furniture is now so
popular that the manufacturers cannot keep up
with demand.
 Wishbone Chair
The legendary Wishbone Chair continues to be the
top-selling model, with two thousand copies
produced annually. Designed in 1950, it is made
today to exactly the same craftsmanship
standards and with the same quality as Wegner's
original prototype.
 Valet Chair
Many pieces of furniture designed by Wegner are new creations in their own right. The Valet Chair is a classic example of that - a piece of bedroom furniture, in the form of a chair, which will hold every piece of a man's set of clothing.
The back is shaped to double as a clothes hanger, the seat can be lifted to give access to storage space for the smaller items, and you can hang a pair of trousers over the upper edge of the seat to retain the creases. The design was introduced as a model in 1951, and the first customer was King Frederick IX, but it was not delivered to him until 1953.
 Flag Line Chair
The Flag Line Chair from 1950 is yet another outstanding design. The frame is made in steel, and all its surfaces are made from woven flag halyard. The chair is supplied complete with sheepskin.
Woven surfaces for a theme which Hans Wegner has pursued in many of his chairs. The weaving can only be done by hand, a process which demands a high level of craftsmanship.

Kumulus Chandelier |
|
We have worked with BSweden for a number of
years, to provide lighting to the contract
market, and often receive enquiries regarding
the Kumulus range of chandeliers. Made from
mouth-blown crystal glass with halogen lighting,
this striking design is suitable for public
spaces and more exclusive domestic interiors.
Kumulus consists of more than fifty individual
glass pieces, in the form of trumpet-shaped
flowers and spiked baubles, with an overall
diameter of 1.2 metres. The design can be
customised to suit larger or smaller spaces.
 Kumulus at Ratos Hotel, Stockholm
The installation at Creata was designed to be
more in the shape of a bouquet of flowers than
the traditional sphere. Recently we have been
working on designs for much larger spaces. For
further details and brochure, please contact our
office.
